New in the Shop: Happy Freaking Birthday Cards

>> Monday, January 10, 2011

Well I realized that not very many of my cards were for traditional holidays- like Birthdays or Thank you cards. Although I already had mother's day cards and valentine's day cards. So I decided to make some birthday cards. Now I didn't want it to be just a boring birthday card so I decided to jazz it up a bit- with the Happy Freaking Birthday card pack.

You don't just want it to be happy- you want it to be freaking happy. At least that's what I would wish for all of my friends. The rainbow of colors let's you give the same card to a friend year after year after year-with exciting new colors. I have some other new cards in the design shop- because everyone needs more cards.

Sex and The City Stickers

>> Friday, May 21, 2010

Well one fantastic seller gave me the idea to make Sex and The City Stickers. They are inspired from my Keep Calm and Carry On Stickers. She asked that I spell it "Carrie" after Carrie Bradshaw.
I have to admit I have never actually watched the show.
What a great idea!
Laurie featured me on her blog. It was so nice of her.
Luniac Style also featured me on her post about Sex and the City Items. People are so excited about this movie.
I am honored to be featured by these great ladies. Thank you so much

I was Featured

>> Tuesday, April 27, 2010

I am so thrilled to have my little design shop featured in a mother's day guide. NewParent.com put in one of my "freak Out and Call Mom" prints. I did this probably at least once a day when I was a new parent. Actually I think I designed this poster when I was a new parent. It also seems to apply to cooking in my life. How in the world would I make anything without a cell phone and a mom who answers? I've covered all my cookbooks with matching paper so you know they are just decorative.
NewParent.com has all sorts of good advice about parenting and babies. they post recalls and other helpful information. Look at their mother's day guide with my poster Here.
You can also find it in my etsy shop- I can do this poster in lots of different colors. Red and Blue are the most popular but I have one in Teal in my kitchen and I want my kitchen to be this Tiffany blue color.
I am ready for the orders to come flooding into my life, just like my mom is always ready for my calls. Thanks so much NewParent.com!

Madness

I feel like one of the most important parts of having an etsy shop is learning how to organize everything. I get these prints and I want someone to buy them but suddenly the place I used to get everything printed at gets a new tech and all the pictures come out the wrong color. Yuck. Also it costs a lot to buy all the packaging to mail things to people. I have gained a new respect for people that offer free shipping to everyone. Are they making any money? I still can't bring myself to charge people what it really costs for all the packaging and shipping costs- it is just a little bit to shameful.
To me there is nothing more exciting than getting a new box of cards. I think they are beautiful. I personally am a hoarder of stationery. I love it. I cherish it. It's like my precious. I order Christmas cards every year. I still have 200 wedding invitations I never sent out. I don't seem to be able to part with my beautiful paper. It is part of my history, my life.
So selling it comes somewhat naturally, and I am shocked that I don't sell 400 cards in a week. Who doesn't secretly want a relationship disappointment card? If not to give to yourself when you are having a bad day. We have all had a friend go through a hard breakup. If that breakup coincides with a diet it's hard to know what we can do for the friend.
I get these cards and then if anyone does order them I feel overwhelmed packaging them up. Most of the packaging supplies are in the frozen basement after all. So John and I got out the bag maker and got all of them ready for mailing. We watched two shows while this was happening. Before things are organized there is an inevitable mess. It looks like there was an explosion all over the living room floor. I decided to take a picture. We packaged the cards over two days and I realized that if I sit on the floor my hips hurt. When did I become such an old woman? Is this normal? Maybe I should get one of those old lady cushions or a floor pillow to sit on. We got finished with the 100 cards that came. Will they ever pay for themselves or gasp-make money? I don't know. maybe they will just become part of my precious collection. At least I am ready for them to go pouring out of my house.

It's been really hard to adjust to having baby number two and husband being in medical school. I find myself in some sleep deprived haze. I don't go down into the cold basement and sew anymore because it is a little too cold for baby Mark. I have to start making money though I've decided. At times I've thought I could use just a little bit of luck. then I thought about how I always used to give people paper cranes for luck. I started it after I read a story about how they are lucky. I read a book about a girl with cancer who tried to fold 1000 cranes so she would get her wish to be cured of cancer. It was a really touching story to see her continuing to hope. Everyone could use a little hope sometimes- including me. I folded some paper cranes and listed one for sale in my shop. I love happy colorful paper and I find myself buying more than I actually use. Origami paper is always a joy because it comes in so many colors. I love all the designs. Paper cranes can be used to send someone a little luck in a card or to make a mobile and even to decorate at a wedding. In Japan it is a tradition to make a string of 1000 of them for a couple who is getting married. This string represents a long life together.
Just a little bit of colorful happiness you can buy.

About This Blog

I am a stay at home mom with a little bit of a fabric habit. I like selling things on etsy to see if other people like the same things I make. I have two adorable kiddos and my husband is in medical school. So when the children go to bed and husband is still away studying, I use my lovely pfaff and bring myself to cut up the fabric I adore so much.
This blog helps motivate me to get things done.
